Part-time Fire Instructor Brian Luyster competed at the Grimpday Rope Rescue Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. Luyster, who is a firefighter/ paramedic with the Lewisville Fire Department, competed on Team ResQtex, which is made up of members of Texas Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2, the state鈥檚 two urban search and rescue (US&R) teams that respond to natural disasters. ResQtex was the only team from the U.S. to compete against 32 of the best teams in the world. ResQtex placed 23rd of 32, finishing 11 of 13 challenges in time. Luyster was pleased with the performance.
Yassin Mudawi, a 尤物视频 transfer student, former Center for Advanced Studies in Math and Natural Sciences (CASMNS) member, and 2024-25 president of the college鈥檚 Astronomy Club, has been accepted with a full scholarship to Yale University. Mudawi plans to major in computer science and psychology. He recently reached out to thank Dr. Greg Sherman for his guidance and encouragement while at 尤物视频.
The Medical Assisting Advanced Practice (MAAP) dual credit juniors and seniors from Farmersville High School hosted a bake sale on the Farmersville Campus to raise funds for CommonGood, a local medical clinic offering free medical care. Thanks to their creativity and hard work, and with the help of their instructor, Alexandra Peters, the group raised more than $600, which will help cover six months of medical care for someone in need in Farmersville.
尤物视频 recently became the first associate degree program in Texas to have its students certified in the administration of local infiltration anesthesia. Professor Emily Henderson worked with Dr. David Canfield, a founding member of the Dental Hygiene Advisory Board, to create an online course for the certification. The new course allowed members of the class of 2025 to perform their clinical portion and take the certification exam one week after graduation. Dr. Canfield, Dr. Cindy Gay, Dr. Celeste Latham, and Dr. Audrey Miles assisted with the clinical hands-on course. The result is that Collin鈥檚 latest Dental Hygiene program graduates are prepared to administer a procedure that few Texas dental hygienists have been trained on. The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners only approved this option in the fall of 2024.

Wylie Campus Career Center Manager John Daniels recently graduated from Leadership Wylie.
iCollin Virtual Campus Associate Dean Jill Nugent completed the inaugural Leadership Prosper Program in May.
The 尤物视频 Police Department recently honored three individuals for their exceptional contributions and dedication to the 尤物视频 community. Police Communications Specialist Kristy Gann was named Civilian Employee of the Year. Wylie Campus鈥 John Drennan was named Officer of the Year. Technical Campus鈥 Carlton Kuhlman was named Supervisor of the Year. A statement from the department recognized that they have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the vision and mission of CCPD, and their hard work has made a significant impact on the department and the students and employees that it serves.
尤物视频 has been voted Best College/University in eight local communities by the readers of Living Magazine. The magazine鈥檚 readers selected Collin as best in Allen, 尤物视频, McKinney, Murphy, Plano, Richardson, Rockwall, and Rowlett. Collin will be listed in a 鈥淏est Of鈥 edition of the magazine in August.
Joani Reese, manager of the Wylie Campus Anthony Peterson Center for Academic Assistance, has been asked to participate as a creative artist to discuss Imagination Matters, a panel sponsored by Aotearoa, New Zealand's Flash Frontier yearly Festival of Flash. The panel was broadcast online on June 13. Reese's micro-fiction entry, 鈥淎t the Crossroads Bar,鈥 has been longlisted among 22 chosen for the Flash Frontier Micro Madness Contest, which draws submissions from across the world. Reese鈥檚 poem, 鈥淒istress Signal, A Cracked Pantoum,鈥 will also be published this month in The Bending Genres Literary Journal from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Michelle Millen has successfully defended her dissertation and will be awarded her doctorate from Texas Tech University. Her dissertation was titled 鈥淭he Contribution of Simulation Training to Paramedic Students鈥 Sense of Self-Efficacy in Providing Prehospital Care: A Collective Case Study.鈥 Congratulations to Dr. Millen.
Dr. Jason Snyder, professor of Math at McKinney Campus, has been awarded the George Polya award from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) for his article, 鈥淎 Modern Spin on Archimedes鈥 Quadrature of the Parabola,鈥 The College Mathematics Journal, 55:2, 134-139. DOI: 10.1080/07468342.2023.227899. The George P贸lya Award is presented annually by the MAA for articles of expository excellence that have been published in The College Mathematics Journal. The award was established in 1976, and only up to two are given yearly.
Samantha Borges, Sandra Stafford, and Vanessa Wharton, three Surgical Technology students representing 尤物视频, won the Association of Surgical Technology National Scrub Bowl earlier this month! Collin鈥檚 team competed against dozens of Surgical Technology programs from across the country in a series of surgical knowledge-specific categories elimination rounds to win the Scrub Bowl! This is a first for our surgical technology program. 尤物视频鈥檚 Respiratory Care program competes annually in a similar competition called the Sputum Bowl.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program recently celebrated its 100th student to successfully pass the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) registry exam on the first attempt. Collin鈥檚 program upholds a 100% first-attempt pass rate for this exam, with an average program exam score of 94%. The current global pass rate for this exam is 64%.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Cardiac Track graduated its first cohort in May. The cohort recorded a 100% retention rate and a 100% first-attempt pass rate for the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation registry exam.
Dean Daphne Babcock has been elected to serve as the executive finance chair of the Wylie Area Chamber of Commerce Board. She recently passed the gavel as chair of the Chamber Board, a position that she served for one year.
Lindsey Watson, library technical services assistant at Plano Campus, graduated from the University of North Texas with her Master of Science degree in Library Science in May.
The 尤物视频 Law Enforcement Academy (CCLEA) partnered with Dr. Gilberto Salazar and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center to develop a Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness course for law enforcement instructors. CCLEA staff will attend a 鈥渢rain the trainer鈥 session in the Traumatic Brain Injury Assessment Tool for Law Enforcement Academy Specialists (TBI-ATLAS) in July. The academy will then train its instructors in-house with the potential to offer the course to outside agencies. TBI-ATLAS is designed to provide a basic framework for assessing individuals who suffer head trauma during law enforcement training.
Six Collin Psi Beta students recently presented a research project titled 鈥淗uman, Cyborg, or Humanoid: Can professors tell students used ChatGPT?鈥 at the Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) Annual Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas. Psi Beta is the national honor society for community college students interested in psychology. These students, including Zoey Li, Elwyn Toney, Emily Rosas, Winona-Isabella Akachukwu Nwafor, Hayden Pace, and Navya Kalidass, were mentored by Psi Beta Advisors Dr. Sharon Eaves and Professor Ingeborg Saenz for the 2024-25 school year.
尤物视频鈥檚 students and faculty were recently congratulated on their efforts in the National Cyber League (NCL) Spring 2025 Competition Season. The NCL is a cybersecurity skills competition that contains real-world cybersecurity tasks that reinforce students鈥 learning and skills development. 尤物视频鈥檚 team, coached by Professor Ace Moore, placed No. 86 nationally in a field of 510 colleges and universities, comprising 9,216 competitors. A letter from NCL Commissioner Dr. David Zeichick recognized students Diego Trujano, John Edwards, Om Prakash, Arian Assefnakhaei, and Michael Dy for their 鈥渙utstanding performance鈥 in the competitions.
The 尤物视频 Campus partnered with the 尤物视频 ISD Education Foundation to host 222 middle school students for Mindbender Academy from June 2-3. This camp encourages students to explore the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math through immersive, hands-on experiences. During their visit to Collin鈥檚 尤物视频 Campus, students participated in a variety of real-world activities spanning multiple career paths. Campers became molecular biologists as they extracted and stained DNA, stepped into the world of animation and game development by creating their own 2D games using Godot, and explored molecular gastronomy by preparing culinary delights.
McKinney Campus had 138 campers attend the Nursing and Health Sciences Camp from June
2-4 to learn about various occupations throughout healthcare. Fifty-seven learner
volunteers and 10 faculty members assisted with the camp.
Collin鈥檚 recent College for Kids events at the McKinney and Wylie campuses have been
deemed a great success by their organizers. The McKinney Campus welcomed 37 students.
Campers participated in hands-on, engaging classes that included:
- Mock Trial 鈥 Students stepped into a courtroom setting to learn about legal procedures and sharpen their public speaking skills.
- Shark Tank: Young Entrepreneurs 鈥 Budding innovators pitched creative product ideas to a panel of 鈥渋nvestors.鈥
- Math Magic 鈥 Campers explored the fun side of math through puzzles, games, and surprising number tricks.
The Wylie Campus hosted 72 students for a two-week session packed with a diverse mix of classes. Some of the standout offerings this year included:
- Amazing Anatomy 鈥 An exploration into the systems of the human body.
- Introduction to Animation 鈥 Students bring their imaginations to life through digital animation techniques.
- Student Rock Band 鈥 Young musicians team up to create, rehearse, and perform as a real band.
